DAK Americas plans US capacity increase in PSF product line aimed at nonwoven and textile customers

CLOVERDALE, CA, October 15, 2014-

Polyester staple fiber manufacturer DAK Americas will boost its PSF capacity in two phases, adding about 25,000 tonnes of production by the end of the project, the company announced today. The announcement comes only a little over a year after the company startled North American fiber markets by shutting down its big Cape Fear plant in North Carolina.

Today's announcement said the Cooper River Site near Charleston, SC will be expanded. The product line that serves nonwoven and textile customers will benefit, with an increase of about 55 million pounds. The first phase of the expansion is planned for completion in May or April 2015. "The timing of Phase two of the expansion will be evaluated shortly thereafter," the company said. The effect of the two phases would be to increase DAK's PSF capacity in the NAFTA region to about a half-billion pounds a year.
