INDA issues statement regarding FTC/Nice-Pak settlement on flushability claims




CARY, NC, May 21, 2015-

The FTC announcement yesterday of a settlement agreement with Nice-Pak Products, Inc. to not advertise moist toilet tissue products as “flushable� unless it can substantiate that the product is safe to flush needs to be put in perspective.

The FTC launched an investigation into this issue in mid-2013 prior to the publication of the INDA/EDANA Third Edition Flushability Assessment Guidelines (GD3) later that summer. This settlement agreement is the first known outcome of that investigation, but separate from any investigation, there has been a high level of collaborative activity between wipes industry members (through INDA) and the wastewater sector (through four of their associations) to address the very issues that concerned the FTC at that time:
