Israeli hygiene player Albaad buys Hospeco in a strategic expansion in US AI, fem care markets

HOUSTON, TEXAS, June 28, 2012-

Israel-based wipes and tampon manufacturer Albaad took a big step in US hygiene markets when it bought Hospeco PC from the Tranzonic Companies for $14.9 million. The transaction closed June 1 and included a production facility in the Lexington, Kentucky area where Hospeco has 25 to 26 lines making feminine napkin and adult incontinence products.

The deal brings Albaad a business whose product, market segment and geographic focuses are complementary with the acquirer's own rather than largely duplicating them. It follows a strategic decision by Albaad in 2009 to add another category to its then-existing wipes business, with feminine hygiene being the choice at that time. Albaad bought Israel-based Rostam in 2010 as part of that decision. The new acquisition continues the company's growth in fem care while also adding a presence in adult incontinence.
