New CNI thermobond line to start this week; next unit due in Q1 2014

CLOVERDALE, CA, November 7, 2013-

Korean-owned Custom Nonwoven Inc. will start up a thermobond line at a new plant in Thomasville, North Carolina this week, with furnishings and bedding being the target market. A second thermobond unit, to make flame retardant fabrics for mattress covers, will start up in the first quarter of 2014, according to Harry Kim, general manager.

The unit starting up this week uses proprietary technology to make a low-melt product in roll sizes up to 145 inches, with an annual capacity approaching 5,000 tonnes. The plant was moved into an existing building. According to an announcement last month by the governor of North Carolina, CNI will be investing more than $12.8 million over the next three years in the facility, creating 72 jobs.
