PGI and its new Providência unit point to tangible gains ahead in midst of second quarter losses

CLOVERDALE, CA, August 28, 2014-

Polymer Group Inc. and its recently-acquired Companhia Providência unit both lost money in the latest quarter. However, Providência blamed its losses mainly on a temporary government ordered multi-line shutdown at a plant in Brazil. Meanwhile, PGI's CEO pointed out that his company's second quarter sales and adjusted operating profit both set new records.

At the same time, PGI was proceeding with its plans to exit European roofing markets, with a spunbond line in Berlin having been shut down and then sold and the Aschersleben plant facing potential sale in some form, either as a whole or in pieces.
