Two firms vote for filtration as growth area; Tapyrus will also make medical NW on new line
HOUSTON, TEXAS, December 13, 2012-
Two companies on opposite sides of the globe announced in late November that they were starting up new meltblown nonwovens lines, and both said they are targeting filtration as key end-use areas. Sandler AG's VS 61 line, at its Schwarzenbach an der Saale plant in Germany, is aimed entirely at filter media, including media for air conditioning systems, while Tapyrus (Thailand) Co., Ltd.'s new unit will serve both filtration and medical fields.
Sandler's new investment in meltblown capacity had not previously been disclosed, but in August 2012 Dr. Ulrich Hornfeck, a member of the company's Management Board, told Nonwovens Markets the company might be more likely to invest next in technical nonwovens rather than in wipes. At that point Sandler had only just begun to assemble the new line, which now becomes the company's third meltblown unit.
