K-C’s 2016 results show structural changes in absorbent hygiene products market plus modest ongoing rate of growth

CLOVERDALE, CA, February 16, 2017-

If Kimberly-Clark is representative of trends in disposable hygiene product markets, its 2016 fiscal year results point to an industry that continues to grow at a modest but healthy rate in the face of significant headwinds from economic problems in parts of Latin America, intense price competition in China and currency volatility everywhere. That is the picture conveyed in the company’s recent quarterly conference call with financial analysts.

The call also pointed to certain other persistent industry themes: the maturing of the North American baby diaper market combined with growth in training pants and baby wipes; the need always to have new product developments in the pipeline for all market segments; and the gradual disappearance of markets solidly dominated by just one or two players.
