SCA rebuffs SEK 200 billion offer for its hygiene business

BRUSSELS, April 21, 2017-

SCA has rejected the SEK 200 billion ($22.23 billion) from a private equity consortium for its hygiene division, according to the Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter (DN). DN also said that while the bidders are not giving up, SCA’s board intends to wait for the company’s split and the listing of the hygiene and forest businesses to ensure that it gets the correct market value. SCA said earlier that the split will be carried out at “a suitable time following completion of the listing process, but no later than in the second half of 2017.”

In mid-April, DN wrote that the SEK 200 billion offer was made by a consortium of private equity companies. This followed media reports that the Swedish financial firm Skandia and the Finnish investment advisory and fund management firm Dasos were planning a bid for SCA’s other division – the Forest business – which includes forest land, paper production for packaging and print, and pulp, solid wood products and renewable energy production.
