AstenJohnson chooses Waco, Texas, for new 220,000 square-foot nonowovens facility

RALEIGH, NC, May 4, 2022-

AstenJohnson, a Charleston, South Carolina-based company, with roots dating back to the late 1700s, has purchased a plot of land in Waco, Texas, to support the expansion of its nonwovens business. The initial investment at the site includes a 220,000 square-foot manufacturing facility and two state-of-the-art needlepunch lines. The facility will also provide room for two additional lines, which will be added as demand requires, according to the company. All told, the land itself has room to support additional facilities, with the potential for up to eight total lines. AstenJohnson expects to start production in Waco in early 2023.

A long history; new to nonwovens. AstenJohnson got its start in the paper industry, and it only recently entered the nonwovens business. The company began in 1790, when the Johnson family opened Manchester Wire Works in Manchester, England. Nearly 100 years later, the Asten family launched V. Asten and Company in Belgium, producing felts for European papermakers.
