Cotlook’s November supply and demand forecasts indicate higher production and consumption in 2024/25
LIVERPOOL, November 29, 2024-
Cotton Outlook’s forecast of global raw cotton output in 2024/25 has been raised by a further 204,000 tonnes in the past month, to 25.5 million. The increase is a result of upward adjustments for China, the United States, the African Franc Zone and Pakistan, partially offset by reductions for smaller producing countries. Our consumption estimate has also been increased, by 120,000 tonnes to 24.5 million, as higher figures for Bangladesh, Vietnam and Pakistan offset reductions for India and Brazil. As a result, world stocks at the end of the current season are expected to rise by 1,020,000 tonnes, up from the 936,000-tonne increase put forward a month ago. Smaller adjustments were made for 2023/24, including a 67,000-tonne reduction to our output estimate and a 5,000- tonne decrease for consumption. Therefore, the margin by which production is estimated to have exceeded consumption in that campaign has been reduced slightly, to 874,000 tonnes.
