Domtar declares force majeure at Ashdown, AR, fluff and SBSK market pulp mill; facility remains idle in wake of Arctic Blast

SAN FRANCISCO, February 26, 2021-

Domtar announced force majeure to customers of its 634,000 tonnes/yr Ashdown, AR, market pulp mill in the wake of an Arctic Blast that froze pipes and pumps at the facility, forcing it to shut down production last week, industry contacts told Fastmarkerts RISI.

The Ashdown mill, which evenly splits the 634,000 tonnnes/yr between fluff pulp and market southern bleached softwood kraft (SBSK), idled production early last week and remains down, sources said. Company officials hope to ramp up production at the mill this weekend, but there’s risk to doing so after unexpected cold shuts, those sources added.
