European Commission imposes duties on SAP imports from the Republic of Korea

RALEIGH, NC, April 7, 2022-

Following a nearly 14-month investigation, the European Commission issued a ruling in the anti-dumping case against superabsorbent polymers imported from the Republic of Korea into European Union member states. The ruling imposes a 13.4% duty on SAP imported by LG Chem Ltd. and an 18.8% duty on all other SAP imports from Korea. The duties are effective as of the date of the ruling, which is April 5.

The European Commission initiated the investigation following a complaint lodged by the European Superabsorbent Polymer Coalition. The complaint was made on behalf of two European Union producers, which together account for 65% of the total European Union production of superabsorbent polymer. Hearing participants included European Union producers BASF, Nippon Shokubai Europe and Evonik in support of duties, and LG Chem along with two SAP users, Procter & Gamble and FATER SpA, in opposition to duties.
