Fiber Industries aims to add capacity at Darlington County, SC polyester staple fiber plant

RALEIGH, NC, May 26, 2022-

As nonwovens producers in North America and Europe continue to search for domestic supply of raw materials to avoid the pains and costs of international logistics in today’s market, whispers of added capacity coming online are met with open ears.

In North America, Fiber Industries LLC has been working to bring on capacity for polyester staple fiber (PSF) since its 2017 acquisition of the long-downed Wellman Palmetto polyester plant in Darlington County, South Carolina. And while the COVID-19 pandemic complicated the start of the plant, the company has made recent progress and announced an added investment in the operation, with an additional line expected to start in early 2023.
