New WUWHS guidelines include use of SAP wound dressings for first time

HEIDENHEIM, Germany, April 18, 2019-

New understanding of wound exudate and healing combined with the widening availability of new and increasingly popular products for wound treatment have led the World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS) to release a new consensus document on the effective assessment and management of wound exudate. The latest guidelines include the use of superabsorbent polymer (SAP) dressings for the first time and offer clear, practical guidance that will help clinicians not only assess and manage exudate more effectively but also improve outcomes and quality of life for patients.1

The new WUWHS consensus document “Wound Exudate: Effective Assessment and Management” pays specific attention to three key areas: the role of moisture balance in wound healing; exudate-related periwound skin problems and care; and the impact of exudate on patient quality of life. SAP dressings such as HARTMANN’s Zetuvit® Plus Silicone offer a number of benefits in all three areas.
