Nikkei reports Unicharm will build third diaper plant in India

CLOVERDALE, CA, November 10, 2017-

Unicharm will build its third diaper plant in India, according to a report from Japan’s Nikkei news service. The story says the plant, to be located in Ahmedebad, in Gujarat State, will increase Unicharm’s Indian diaper capacity by 50%. Startup is expected in the spring of 2018.

As reported on RISI’s Nonwovens.com website, Unicharm’s Indian diaper capacity is currently reduced because of a fire that broke out on the night of October 24 in the product warehouse of its Neemrana plant in Rajasthan State. Having a third plant in India would give the company increased flexibility and also provide more of a backstop against production problems.
