Nonwovens benefit from modest but healthy auto sales growth; longer-term opportunities begin to emerge

Nonwoven fabrics play an increasingly important role in the manufacture of motor vehicles, and nonwovens producers have benefited from the strong growth trend in vehicle sales since the end of the Great Recession. Now vehicle sales in some major markets seem to be growing more slowly or leveling off, but substantial declines from recent highs don’t seem likely.
At the same time, potential structural changes in vehicle sales patterns appear to present both opportunities and challenges to nonwovens makers, as a recent series of presentations by thermal and acoustic insulation specialist Autoneum illustrate.
