Nonwovens firms battered by wild swings in materials costs and availability, also in demand for some NW products

Volatility and uncertainty continued to plague the nonwovens industry during this year's second quarter, with recent earnings reports from Suominen and from Schouw & Co.'s two nonwovens units underlining the impact of wide swings in raw materials and logistics costs and end-product demand on company sales and earnings.
In another challenge for some nonwovens producers, availability of raw materials and parts in some cases have forced customers in the auto sector to reduce operations.
