Nonwovens suppliers, customers still buying skills, scale and technology – but M&A pace slows a bit

CLOVERDALE, CA, March 21, 2019-

Nonwovens producers and their customers continued to see acquisitions and sales of major assets as an important strategy in 2018, although at a somewhat slower pace than in 2017 if the pages of Nonwovens Markets are any indication. A survey of asset deals reported in the newsletter last year showed 12 transactions were reported during year, down from 15 in 2017 and 13 in 2016.

While the total number of stories reported may have dipped, there were still a number of important and strategically interesting deals, including purchases of Avgol by Indorama, DUCI by Fibertex Nonwovens, Georgia-Pacific’s European business by Glatfelter, and the purchase of US and Chinese nonwovens operations of First Quality by R2G, the parent company of PFNonwovens.
