Renewed pandemic intensity leads to nonwovens market tightness, price spikes, and new meltblown capacity

CLOVERDALE, CA, July 8, 2020-

New meltblown expansions were reported on four continents in the last couple of weeks, amid indications that the development of renewed COVID-19 spikes in some countries such as the United States is intensifying the tightness of nonwovens markets. Sources say fabrics that are not commonly used for facemask filter layers are increasingly affected by a chaotic supply/demand situation.

Two major nonwovens producers announced new meltblown lines in late June while an Australian firm and a Japanese housewares maker reportedly also decided to install machines. A new machine in Germany is expected to start up soon.
