Spunlace market hits a wall as oversupply of wipes takes toll throughout global supply chain

WILMOT, NH, July 22, 2021-

Spunlacers enjoyed a good run for most of 2020 and the several months of 2021, but market observers say that came to an end in the past month or two as orders from the crucial wipes segment began to dry up. Most believe the current doldrums will last until wipes converters can work off a very substantial overstock position involving finished products as well as raw materials.

The market slowdown is affecting the entire supply chain, from suppliers of polyester, polypropylene and viscose fiber, to spunlacers and other nonwoven fabric producers, to wipes converters and retailers. Sources say most major wipes converters either have lines sitting idle or report holes in their order books.
