In February 2020, the scale of the global pandemic was only just becoming apparent. Avgol’s own facility in Hubei province, the very epicenter of the COVID-19 virus, was being impacted by a strange new illness. Demand for personal protection equipment (PPE) started to skyrocket and it soon became apparent that the global supply of PPE was woefully insufficient to meet growing demand. Manufacturing of PPE – either in terms of components or as finished goods – was simply not positioned to keep pace with domestic requirements.
