Wipes makers, wastewater industry agree on something: celebrating new California label law on flushables

WILMOT, NH, October 21, 2021-

Wipes producers took what looks like a big step this month toward resolution of disputes with the US wastewater industry over labelling of some wet wipes as flushable, when California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law mandating a specific approach to “Do Not Flush” markings that is deemed acceptable by both industries.

INDA President Dave Rousse said, “This is a big accomplishment as we started out with substantial differences with our California water/wastewater partners that were narrowed through constructive dialog.  It is likely to serve as a model for other states as it focuses on the 98% of items flushed that should not be rather than focusing on the 2% (max) that might be Flushable Wipes (and do not cause harm).”
